Make sure to clearly cite and reference your sources, and to follow the ASA style (Links to an external site.). In defining any sociological concepts, only use sociological sources because things may mean something different in everyday English or in other disciplines.

DIRECTIONS: The point of this assignment is to allow you to demonstrate your ability to do some research and present your findings on a topic related to the sociology of the family. Your paper should be a minimum of 4 double-spaced pages but no longer than 10 pages, plus a Works Cited (bibliography) page (so, with the Works Cited page, your paper should be between 5 and 11 pages long). Do not include a separate title page or an abstract. You should type your paper using Times New Roman font; the font size should be 12 points and you should use standard 1” margins.

TOPIC: The benefits and challenges of non-traditional families

Research and describe the benefits and challenges of non-traditional families (some examples of non-traditional families are blended families, single-parent families, same-sex families, polygamous families; for the purpose of this paper, you should focus on only one of the non-traditional family forms, so you can describe it more in-depth; make sure you are clear in your paper about what non-traditional family form you are analyzing). What are the benefits of non-traditional families? What are the challenges their members may encounter? What can be done to address these challenges? Which solutions do you think are most likely to be successful and why?
